New C14 Calibration for 50,000 years

New calibrations of C14 for the Northern Hemisphere and Marine samples for the last 50,000 years have been determined with the titles "IntCal09 and Marine09 calibration curves".

Carbon 14 is produced in the upper atmosphere by cosmic rays which are themselves affected by solar activity.

Using the IntCal09 data for just the last 2000 years and inverting (because C14 variations are inverted compared to solar radiation or temperatures) gives the following graph:

C14 variations for the last 2000 years
The IntCal09 C14 determination for the last 2000 years.

C14 is usually interpreted as due to solar variations, for example Wikipedia Solar Variation links to a graph C14 and Solar variations
which states:

Correlations between 14C and sunspot activity. There is a roughly 60 year delay between changes in sunspot activity and 14C; in this chart the time scale for 14C has been separated (labelled at the top of the chart) and offset by 60 years. Note that the 14C record since 1950 has been distorted by nuclear testing. Sunspot data in red is reconstructed from group sunspot numbers.

It is interesting to compare the above reconstruction of C14 with temperatures over the same period. This temperature reconstruction by Craig Loehle covers the period 16 CE to 1935 CE (slightly shorter than the C14 record).

Although many climatologists and the IPCC claim that it is proven that human production of CO2 is more significant that solar effects on global temperatures, the above graphs strongly suggest that Solar effects on Earth are very substantial and could explain most of the twentieth century warming.

Wobbly Universe

Blog of Ray Tomes research on cycles, news reports on cycles, my original research on the Harmonics Theory and discussion of these matters.

There are cycles in everything. There are cycles in the weather, the economy, the sun, wars, geological formations, atomic vibrations, climate, human moods, the motions of the planets, populations of animals, the occurrence of diseases, the prices of commodities and shares and the large scale structure of the universe. None of these are independent of each other.

Research shows that very different disciplines often find the same cycle periods in their data. The inter-relatedness of all things is an idea who's time has come. The study of cycles is an excellent way to understand this because the periods of cycles are as easy to recognise as fingerprints or DNA sequences.

"The universe, believe it or not, is nothing other than a giant musical instrument with a very special but predictable pattern of harmonically related oscillations which determine the structure of everything from galactic clusters to subatomic particles and we are just parts of the various vibration modes."

The single axiom of the Harmonics Theory is that:

The Universe consists of a standing wave which develops harmonically related standing waves and each of these does the same.
